Ranju Darshana is a Nepali political leader, lecturer, mental health advocate, and social activist. She is widely known for her bold entry into politics at a young age and for representing a new generation of leaders in Nepal. Over the years, she has been involved in education, social work, political campaigns, and mental health awareness programs.
Currently, Ranju Darshana is a candidate for the House of Representatives Election 2026 from Kathmandu–1 representing the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP). Alongside her political career, she teaches undergraduate students and conducts mental health awareness and counseling programs. Her journey reflects resilience, determination, and a strong commitment to building a better Nepal.
Early Life and Childhood:
Ranju Darshana was born in March 1996 in Kathmandu, Nepal. She was raised by her single mother, who worked very hard to support the family. Her mother earned a living through minor tailoring work and by taking care of other people’s children. Despite financial difficulties, her mother remained determined to provide her with education and a better future. Ranju grew up mainly under the care of her mother and maternal grandparents. Her grandmother played a major role in supporting the family and providing them with stability.
Her father had left even before she was born and never returned to take responsibility for her upbringing. Growing up without a father figure was emotionally challenging for Ranju, especially when she saw her friends talking about their fathers. However, she never learned to hate him because her mother never spoke negatively about him.
School Life and Early Education:
Ranju began her education at Nirmal Batika English Medium School in Dhapasi, where she completed her primary education. Later, she joined Bhanubhakta Memorial Higher Secondary School, where she completed her School Leaving Certificate (SLC).
During her school years, Ranju was known as a boyish and active student. She often kept short hair, wore different styles of clothes, and spent time playing with boys. She never saw herself limited by gender roles.
She was also socially active even during school. She helped organize a local initiative called “Brahma Cottage Helping Handâ€, where she and her friends cleaned their neighborhood, collected donations, and helped teach basic literacy to children of laborers. One of the students she remembers clearly is a girl named Rani, who was eager to learn despite difficult circumstances.
Early Political Awareness:
Ranju’s interest in politics started at a very young age. When she was studying in grade five, she began questioning why the road near her home remained unpaved despite repeated promises by political leaders during elections. This simple observation pushed her to start watching news and listening to political speeches. She gradually developed the belief that Nepal’s problems were deeply connected to politics and governance, and that improving politics could improve society.
Citizenship Struggles and Personal Challenges:
Ranju faced major difficulties when she tried to obtain her Nepali citizenship. Government institutions often demanded her father’s identity, even though she had been raised solely by her mother. Officials refused to process documents using her mother’s name. This experience deeply affected her and made her realize the systemic discrimination faced by single mothers and their children in Nepal.
Eventually, she was forced to contact her father for citizenship documents even though he had never been part of her life. She later explained that the experience revealed how state systems often treat women as secondary citizens.
